A 13-character code beginning with P, issued to individuals by Korea Customs. It identifies you at clearance in place of a resident registration number, and from 2026 it is used together with a one-time authentication code.

You get it free from Korea Customs' dedicated e-commerce customs platform, verified against a phone registered in your name. It exists so that you do not hand a resident registration number to every shop you buy from. Two things changed in 2026. First, the code alone no longer completes an order. Each purchase also needs a one-time authentication code that Korea Customs sends you. A clearance code never changes, so once it leaks it can be reused indefinitely; this closes that. Second, the code now expires. An existing code must be renewed in the month of your 2027 birthday, and the one-time code applies from that renewal. Anyone issued a new code, or changing their registered details, is covered immediately. This is a frequent cause of held shipments. If your name, date of birth or phone number differs by even one character from what Korea Customs has, the shipment stops because customs cannot confirm who you are. The usual culprits are the spelling of a romanised name, a surname changed after marriage, and a phone number you no longer use. If you are stuck, check your registered details with Korea Customs first and make the shop or forwarding address match. You rarely need a new code.
